Same name, different part revision — how do you verify fit?

I keep running into replacement parts with nearly identical names but different revision numbers. What is the safest way to verify compatibility when retailer listings simplify the product name?

I have started checking the manufacturer documentation first, but sometimes the revision details are buried.

Use the most specific identifier you can find on the device, packaging, or original part, then compare that against the manufacturer compatibility list and the replacement-part identifier. Do not let a shared family name override a conflicting model or revision number.

Screenshots can also help when a listing changes, as long as the date and source are kept with the note.

That confirms I should stop trusting the shortened retailer title when the identifiers disagree.
