How We Test

Vape Reviews uses a documented review process so readers can understand what was tested, how observations were recorded, where judgment enters, and what can cause a published conclusion to change. This methodology applies to product reviews, comparisons, buying guides, compatibility checks, accessory coverage, and longer-term testing.

1. Define the review question

Every review begins by defining what the article is actually meant to answer. A device review may focus on everyday usability, construction, charging behavior, maintenance, compatibility, or a combination of those areas. An accessory review may focus on fit, utility, durability, or whether it solves a specific ownership problem. Defining scope before testing keeps a narrow observation from becoming a broader claim than the work supports.

We record the exact model, version, generation, and relevant configuration whenever those details can affect the result. If a product family contains materially different versions, we do not assume that one unit represents every version sold under a similar name.

2. Document how the product was obtained

Reviews identify material support that could help a reader evaluate the circumstances of the test. Products may be purchased by Vape Reviews, supplied as samples, loaned, or accessed before broad release. Receiving a sample or early access does not give a manufacturer control over the score, wording, conclusion, publication decision, or correction process.

Material relationships are handled under our Sponsored Samples and Gifts Policy, Advertising Disclosure, and Editorial Policy. Where early access or an embargo applies, the restriction may govern timing but does not govern the editorial conclusion.

3. Establish a realistic test period

Test duration depends on the question being asked. Setup and interface observations can begin immediately, while maintenance burden, component wear, repeated refill behavior, charging consistency, and durability require repeated use. We avoid presenting a short first-impression period as evidence of long-term reliability.

When an article discusses longer-term behavior, the review records repeated cycles or ordinary-use periods sufficient to observe changes rather than relying on a single controlled session. If the available period is limited, the article states that limitation instead of implying a longer test.

4. Test in ordinary conditions

Products are evaluated in the kinds of situations that expose practical strengths and weaknesses: setup, carrying, refilling, charging, cleaning, storage, repeated handling, and routine operation. Controlled checks are useful when a specific measurement needs consistency, but everyday-use observations remain important because many ownership problems do not appear on a clean desk during the first hour.

When environment can materially affect an observation, the condition is recorded. We do not assume that one person's routine or one test environment produces a universal result.

5. Separate measurements from judgments

Quantitative information and subjective evaluation serve different purposes. Measurements such as dimensions, weight, charge time, observed runtime, or repeated-cycle counts are reported as measured or documented values when they are part of the test. Subjective areas such as comfort, interface preference, flavor description, or perceived convenience are presented as judgments with enough context for readers to understand the basis.

We do not convert every observation into a number merely to make the review look precise. A score is useful only when the underlying criteria are meaningful and consistently applied. The article should make the important evidence visible even when a reader never looks at the final score.

6. Verify specifications and claims

Published specifications are checked against the strongest available sources for the exact product and version. Depending on the item, that can include the physical product, packaging, manuals, manufacturer documentation, and other primary material. When sources conflict, the discrepancy is investigated rather than resolved by choosing whichever value appears most often online.

Unknown information remains unknown until it can be verified. We do not fill specification gaps with values borrowed from a related model. Our Fact-Checking Policy governs source checks, dates, model matching, and corrections to factual claims.

7. Repeat checks that can change over time

Some observations become more useful only after repetition. Refill systems, hinges, doors, ports, buttons, charging connections, removable parts, cases, cleaning tools, and other wear points are checked across repeated use when the conclusion depends on durability or consistency. A single successful action is not automatically treated as evidence that the same action remains reliable over time.

When a result varies, we record the pattern and the conditions around it. A mixed result may lead to a narrower conclusion, an additional test, or an explicit limitation rather than a forced pass/fail judgment.

8. Compare products on equivalent terms

Comparisons use the same core criteria for products being compared while preserving differences in intended use. We normalize prices and pack sizes where necessary, compare compatible configurations, identify meaningful version differences, and explain when two products solve different problems rather than pretending one universal ranking fits every reader.

“Best for” recommendations are use-case conclusions, not permanent awards. A recommendation can change when price, availability, competing products, compatibility, or the category itself changes.

9. Treat compatibility as something to verify

Compatibility is recorded at the most specific practical level available: model, generation, revision, connector, physical fit, and usable access to controls or ports. Similar names and product-family relationships do not substitute for verification. If a fit was not directly tested, the article distinguishes documented compatibility from direct observation.

10. Review the evidence before publication

Before publication, the article is checked for unsupported conclusions, inconsistent terminology, mismatched models, stale dates, disclosure requirements, broken references, and claims that extend beyond the scope of the work. Editors look for places where a strong sentence may outrun the evidence supporting it.

The publication process also checks that important limitations are near the conclusion they qualify. We do not rely on a generic disclaimer at the bottom of the page to repair an overbroad statement in the main review.

11. Keep commercial relationships separate

Advertising, sponsorship, samples, affiliate relationships, business discussions, and other commercial activity do not determine which product wins a comparison or how a review is scored. Companies do not receive a right to approve conclusions before publication. Factual corrections can be considered from any source under the same editorial standard.

12. Retest when the product materially changes

A published review may need a retest when a new revision changes the hardware, compatibility, behavior, included components, or another factor central to the original conclusion. A simple price or availability change may require an editorial update instead. We choose between a correction, update, follow-up, or retest based on what changed and whether the original evidence still represents the product readers can obtain.

13. Correct and update the public record

When a factual error is confirmed, Vape Reviews corrects the affected page and, when necessary, related pages that repeat the same information. Material corrections and meaningful updates are documented so readers can understand what changed. The Corrections Policy explains how corrections, update notes, and follow-up review are handled.

Dates in the article and structured data are maintained to distinguish initial publication from later modification. Updating a page does not justify rewriting its publication history.

14. Explain limits instead of hiding them

No single review can represent every unit, every environment, or every reader preference. Variability is part of product evaluation. When a conclusion depends on a particular condition, we state that condition. When evidence is mixed, we explain the mix. When information cannot be verified, we say so.

The purpose of this methodology is not to make every article look identical. It gives the editorial team a shared standard for evidence, disclosure, verification, and accountability while leaving room for product-specific judgment.
