What counts as evidence vs anecdote in forum discussions?

First-hand experience can be valuable in a forum because it tells us what happened to a specific person under specific conditions. The mistake is turning one report into a universal claim without additional evidence.

A useful anecdote says what happened, identifies the relevant product or version, describes the conditions, and leaves room for other explanations. Stronger conclusions need stronger support.

This is a good standard for hardware forums in general. One failure report is a reason to investigate, not a failure rate.
